REDONDO Project Marks Third Year with Successful M36 Review Meeting in Lisbon!
The REDONDO Project has successfully reached its third year of implementation, hosting its semestral M36 review meeting at the Centro de Inovação Empresarial in Oeiras (Lisbon, Portugal), organized by ISQ.
Exciting results were discussed in WP3. AUTH confirmed the previous promising results on the synthesis of reversibly cross-linked HDPE through carbon-dithio bonds, while CNRS reported successful reversible cross-linking of HDPE via Diels-Alder chemistry.
The meeting brought together all partner organisations, with the participation of Mrs. Rossitza Krassimirova Vassileva, REDONDO’s project officer, and the remote contribution of Dr. Paul Topham, the project’s external reviewer. Over two days, the consortium presented results from months 19–36, addressed challenges, and outlined future actions for year four.
Key Highlights from the Work Packages
- WP1 & WP2: Coordination and management, final updates on raw material hazards, sustainability- and recyclability-by-design approaches.
- WP3: Development of two innovative reversibly cross-linked polyethylene (rPEX) grades, showing strong performance after simulated recycling.
- WP4: Creation of modified nanolignin and hybrid nanocellulose/clay additives. New composites demonstrated synergistic flame-retardant behavior, paving the way for biobased additives to replace conventional ones.
- WP5: Large-scale composite preparation and trials for rPEX scale-up, addressing key industrialisation challenges.
- WP6: Hazard assessments confirmed rPEX as a safe polymer, supported by positive occupational risk results.
- WP7: Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and initial recyclability insights for composites. Introduction of the PLACE-Me tool with its first interface mock-up.
- WP8: Strong growth in social media engagement and successful REDONDO workshops. Updates on exploitable results, competitor analysis, and patent mapping.
Looking Ahead
The M36 review meeting confirmed the project’s significant progress across all work packages, earning positive feedback from both the project officer and the external reviewer.
With these achievements, REDONDO continues to pave the way toward safer, more sustainable, and recyclable cross-linked polyethylene (rPEX). Upcoming scientific publications and new media content will further showcase REDONDO’s innovations in circular polymer technologies.
