REDONDO EU Funded Project | M42 Consortium Meeting, Germany
REDONDO project has reached a crucial milestone we are entering in the last 6 months of the project. The consortium met in Berlin to discuss the last developments since the M36 consortium meeting and plan the remaining actions until the end of the project.

The consortium meeting took place on February 25 and was opened by Dr Mike Szameitat, the head of the developemnt department of KBE, who welcomed all participants, followed by Prof. Dimitrios Bikiaris, the coordinator of the project; then the WP and Task leaders further presented the work carried out since M36. In the context of WP3, AUTH and CNRS confirmed the results on reversibly cross-linked PE (rPEX) with further insights on the reversibility of the cross-linking progress and the evolution of properties with iterative recycling cycles. Within WP5, AIMEN presented the work performed on nanocellulose/HDPE composites, SILON detailed the trials performed in order to develop rPEX masterbatches based on AUTH’s chemistry and KBE presented their overall work on the separation between copper and plastic, to optimize the recycling of the plastic fraction. For WP6, ITENE presented the updated Safe-by-Design criteria, based on the revised version of the EC recommendations published in December 2025 and the hazard assessment of the main chemicals of the Redondo project. Additionally, qualitative occupational exposure risk assessments were presented for several processes of the project and workplace monitoring was scheduled for the upcoming months. Exciting progress was made in WP7. ISQ has moved on to gather and analyze data for social LCA. AIMEN presented the results of the recyclability study performed with HDPE/lignin and modified lignin composites. ITENE presented the updated Sustainability-by-Design criteria and the integration of the preliminary results regarding Redondo. AIMEN reported the progress with the additives inventory which is now almost complete and the material flow analysis scenario for pipes. Last but not least, AXIA presented the development of the first version of the PLACE-me tool and the functions of the tool. Finally, in the context of WP8, RDC presented updated analytics on REDONDO’s website and social media presence, and latest dissemination activities. AXIA provided an update on the ownership of the project’s key exploitable results (KERs) and how they should be reported, a market analysis on the sectors related to REDONDO and the competitor analyses performed for REDONDO’s industrial partners.

On the following day, the consortium had the opportunity to visit KBE facilities in Berlin. We were guided through the two production sites located in Berlin, the first one aiming at the production of wires and the second one turning these wires into cables and further discussed the production of cables within the REDONDO project.

The M42 consortium meeting concluded successfully, with all partners aligning on their final actions for the last semester to ensure the successful completion of the REDONDO project.
